new Zone Key Tool (ZKT) version 1.0

There is a new version of DNSSEC Zone Key Tool from Holger Zuleger. Important changes are

dnssec-signer is renamed to zkt-signer
dnssec-zkt is split into three seperate commands
zkt-conf,
zkt-ls and
zkt-keyman
The new zkt-conf command helps in managing the config file. The README file give some examples how to use it.
zkt-ls has a coloring mode (-C)
logging can be done per domain

I updated the FreeBSD zkt port.

new polipo version 1.0.4.1

Christopher Davis released a new version for polipo. I made also an update for the FreeBSD port.

Changes:

Polipo 1.0.4.1 contains several security and 
stability fixes over 1.0.4.

  * Fixed an integer overflow that may lead to a 
    crash (http://secunia.com/advisories/37607/).
    Discovered by Jeremy Brown. (CVE-2009-4413)
  * Fixed a crash that occurs when a server sends 
    a malformed Cache-Control: header (CVE-2009-3305).
    Patch from Stefan Fritsch.
  * Prevent an infinite loop when a bodyless 204 or 
    1xx response is encountered.
  * Don't crash when we get an error while waiting 
    for 100 continue status.

Samba unter FreeBSD mit FAM

Die Einrichtung von Samba unter FreeBSD ist ja sicher kein Problem. Da ich aber keine richtige Dokumentation für die FAM Einrichtung fand, hier einige Hinweise dazu.

There is a new version of DNSSEC Zone Key Tool from Holger Zuleger.

I updated the FreeBSD zkt port. Hopefully it will go into the coming FreeBSD 8.0 release.

rsync, plink and zfs on FreeBSD

I thought I can report some news for the rsync/plink problem, but I spent some time on debugging. The reason was I did not realize that I walked into the zfs on FreeBSD trap.

I use a test partition with zfs for backup purposes and did not see any problems until today. With rsync the system showed the often reported hangs. So I need to test on an other partition. But there is hope to get rsync with plink running. :-)

A new port revision for zkt was published. The only change were minor corrections in the man pages. Most users have no reason to update.

Java and IPv6 on BSD

More and more sites use the new internet protocol IPv6. Therefore it is also necessary to enable IPv6 on servers, written in Java^™ language. Although current Java ^™ runtime environments claim to support IPv6 there are still errors observed. All investigations are made on FreeBSD-7.0-STABLE, but from reading the current sources I expect the same behaviour on all unix like systems. Java^™ for Windows^© has a different implementation.
