Too much work

Live messenger as well as Skype allows the input of presence information. That means your friends know if you are ready for a chat or they should wait if you are out of home/office. But maintaining the state on two places is exhausting, my wish was that I enter the presence information only once and it is available in both messenger programs.

The solution

I found a useful Windows Live Messenger extension named Messenger Plus!™ Live, that allows (amongst other things)

  • the input of customized away and busy statuses with special name tags
  • to run customized scripts

I created a script for Messenger Plus! Live that uses the Skype API and transfers the personal status from Windows Live Messenger to Skype. So your Skype status is always a copy of your MSN status.

It is available on http://www.msgpluslive.net/scripts/view/516-MSN-presence-to-Skype
